In April 2013, Nilupul Foundation received £44,400 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for WHA’S DUNDEE. Led by young people, the Wha’s Dundee project celebrates and preserves the unique and diverse migratory history of Dundee’s ethnic minority population, investigating just what it means to be Dundonian in 2013. The project involves partnership work with Dundee City Council, The Shore, Bharatiya Ashram, Dundee International Women’s Centre, Hot Chocolate Trust, DEAP, One World Centre and many more local community organisations.
Local young people are learning filmmaking, and interview skills to help them gather together fascinating personal histories which will be at the heart of a new documentary film and digital media archive to be showcased during the NEoN Digital Arts Festival in November 2013.
We are thrilled to have received the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and are confident that this project will bring together people of different cultures and generations in a celebration of Dundee’s cultural diversity. At a time when Dundee is bidding for City Of Culture and preparing for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, ‘Wha’s Dundee’ is a great showcase for the city’s unique cultural heritage.
